Essence Fest 2024 Exclusive: The Boys Season 4 cast interviews Jessie T. Usher and Susan Heyward

During the 2024 Essence Festival, Blackfilmandtv.com's Wilson Morales spoke with The Boys cast members Jessie T. Usher (aka A-Train) and Susan Heyward (Sister Sage) regarding their roles in Season 4.

The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late. The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. It’s the seemingly powerless against the super powerful.

Usher plays Reginald "Reggie" Franklin, better known as A-Train. He is a speedster who used to be a part of the team known as the Teenage Kix, and is a former member of The Seven. He inadvertently killed Robin Ward, girlfriend of Hughie Campbell, with his powers while high on Compound V, an action which led to Hughie becoming his archenemy, ultimately leading to him joining The Boys and the events of the show.

Prior to The Boys, Usher was best known for his leading role as Cam Calloway on the series Survivor's Remorse. His film credits include When the Game Stands Tall (2014), Teenage (2013), Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Shaft (2019), and Smile (2022).

Heyward joined the series in Season 4 as Jessica Bradley, better known as Sister Sage. Recruited by Homelander to join The Seven, she is a Supe from Detroit, Michigan who is known for being the smartest person on the planet.

Heyward most recently starred on OWN series, Delilah, and will next be seen on the Apple TV+ series, Hello, Tomorrow. She is best known for her breakout performance on the final two seasons of Orange Is The New Black on Netflix as Tamika Ward.
