Hitting theaters on April 4 from Warner Bros. is A Minecraft Movie, directed by Jared Hess and starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
The screenplay is by Chris Bowman, Rob McElhenney, Hubbel Palmer, Allison Schroeder, Peter Sollett, and Jon Spaihts. The film was produced by Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Olafsson and Vu Bui.'
Welcome to the world of Minecraft – where creativity doesn't just help you craft, it's essential to one's survival! Four misfits—Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they'll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins & Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative... the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
Best known for her role as Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, Brooks received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Sofia in the film adaptation of The Color Purple. She also plays Leota Adebayo on James Gunn’s Max DC series Peacemaker.
Myers stars as Enid Sinclair on Netflix’s Wednesday, and also starred in the streamer’s Ed Helms comedy, Family Switch from McG. Her credits also include the TV series Dead of Night and The Baker and the Beauty as well as the movie The Girl in the Basement.
Hansen made his big-screen debut in the Warner Bros’ Destin Daniel Cretton-directed drama Just Mercy opposite Oscar winner Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan. He recurred in the series Lisey’s Story for Apple and on the Prime Video series Mozart in the Jungle.
Hess is known for directing Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos, Don Verdean, and Thelma the Unicorn previously.
