Exclusive: Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth talk George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Hitting theaters on May 24 is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Anya Taylor-Joy stars as a younger Imperator Furiosa, the same Furiosa in the action classic Mad Max: Fury Road.

It also stars Chris Hemsworth as Dementus, Tom BurkeNathan JonesAngus SampsonQuaden BaylesDaniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme. The film is George Miller's highly anticipated follow-up to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants battle for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland.

Furiosa is directed by George Miller, director of the movies Mad Max, The Road Warrior, Max Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome, The Witches of Eastwick, Lorenzo's Oil, Babe: Pig in the City, Happy Feet 1 & 2, Max Max: Fury Road, and Three Thousand Years of Longing previously. The screenplay is by Nick Lathouris and George Miller. Produced by Doug Mitchell and George Miller.

Taylor-Joy takes over the role of Furiosa from Charlize Theron, who played her in Mad Max: Fury Road. Her feature film debut was in The Witch. The actress received international attention, though, when she played Beth Harmon in The Queen's Gambit. Her performance won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her performance. Other film credits include Emma, The New Mutants, The Menu, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Dune: Part Two.

Hemsworth plays Warlord Dementus. Hemsworth made his feature film debut when he played George Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, but received further prominence when he starred as Thor in Marvel's Thor, a role he went on to play in eight more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder). Other film roles include Ghostbusters, Men in Black: International and more recently Extraction and Extraction 2.
