Exclusive: Ariana DeBose talks Apple TV+ new musical comedy Schmigadoon!
Currently playing globally on Apple TV+ is its new musical comedy Schmigadoon!
A parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, “Schmigadoon!” stars Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship who discover a magical town living in a 1940s musical. They then learn that they can’t leave until they find “true love.”
The six-episode season also stars Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski and Ann Harada. Martin Short guest stars.
For DeBose, who plays Emma Tate, Schmigadoon's schoolteacher, she gets opposite Keegan-Michael Key in most of her scenes. The two were recently seen in the film adaptation of The Prom. Just like The Prom, she gets to sing and dance, which is basically her specialty. As an original cast of Hamilton as The Bullet and as the lead Jane in A Bronx Tale, she was later nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Donna Summer in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. Audiences will get to see DeBose sing and dance again as she is set to play Anita in Steven Spielberg's upcoming film adaptation of West Side Story.
