Exclusive: Ben Schwartz and Sam Richardson on having a blast with Apple TV+ series The Afterparty

Now playing on Apple TV+ is the highly anticipated murder-mystery comedy series, “The Afterparty,” starring Tiffany Haddish (“Girls Trip,” “Like a Boss”), Sam Richardson (“Tomorrow War,” “Veep”), Zoë Chao (“Love Life,” “Downhill”), Ben Schwartz (“Space Force,” “House of Lies”), Ike Barinholtz (“The Mindy Project,” “Neighbors”), Ilana Glazer (“Broad City”), Jamie Demetriou (“Fleabag,” “Stath Lets Flats”), and Dave Franco (“The Rental,” “The Disaster Artist”). The eight-episode first season launched globally on Friday, January 28, 2022 on Apple TV+ with three episodes, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday.

From Academy Award winners Chris Miller and Phil Lord (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” “The Lego Movie,” “21 Jump Street”), “The Afterparty” is a genre-defying series centered on a murder mystery at a high school reunion, with each episode exploring a different character’s account of the fateful evening in question, all through the lens of popular film genres and unique visuals to match the storyteller’s perspective

Richardson is Aniq, a loveable escape room designer who hopes to reconnect with his high school crush, Zoe. He is best known for playing Richard Splett in HBO's Veep and for co-creating the Comedy Central series Detroiters. He has also appeared in I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, New Girl, BoJack Horseman, Promising Young Woman, Office Christmas Party, Superintelligence and Spy.

Schwartz will play Yasper, Aniq’s relentlessly positive best friend who dreams of a career in music. Schwartz is best known for playing Jean-Ralphio Saperstein in Parks and Recreation and his roles in House of Lies, DuckTales, The Other Guys, This Is Where I Leave You, Flora & Ulysses, Staged, Space Force and Modern Family.

Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales caught up with Schwartz and Richardson regarding their roles and how much of a blast they had on this series.
