Exclusive: Bianca Lawson and Rutina Wesley talk Queen Sugar Final Season

The award-winning drama series QUEEN SUGAR from creator and executive producer Ava DuVernay airs episode 2 for its seventh and final season tonight, Tuesday, September 13 at 8 pm ET/PT on OWN.  

From award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay, the contemporary drama “Queen Sugar” returns six months after the season six finale, with the Bordelons celebrating new beginnings as they continue to leave their mark on the community and honor the legacy of their family. 

Queen Sugar centers on the lives of three siblings in rural Louisiana (Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Kofi Siriboe) who must deal with the aftermath of their father's sudden death and decide the fate of his 800-acre sugarcane farm.

Series regulars also include Tina Lifford, Omar Dorsey, Nicholas L. Ashe, Bianca Lawson, Henry G. Sanders, and Tammy Townsend.

Notable guest stars include the return of Emmy award-winner Glynn Turman, the late father of the Bordelon siblings; Emmy nominees Tracie Thoms, as Nova’s long lost high school love, and Sharon Lawrence as Charley Bordelon’s mother Lorna; Emmy award-winner Greg Vaughan as Nova’s former partner; Vanessa Bell Calloway (“This Is Us,” “Shameless”), Amirah Vann as family nemesis Parker Campbell; and Brian Michael as Ralph Angel’s high school friend and current police officer Toine. Kaci Walfall (“Naomi”), and Lamman Rucker (“Greenleaf”) join returning recurring cast members that include Reagan Gomez who portrays Nova’s former lover Chantal; Grammy Award-winner Ann Nesby as Sandy, the at-home nurse who catches Prosper Denton’s eye; Tanyell Waivers, Micah’s ex-girlfriend Keke; McKinley Freeman, Nova’s anthropologist boyfriend Dominic; and Vivien Ngô, Ralph Angel’s ex-girlfriend Trinh.
