Exclusive: Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss on playing partners in Todd Field's TÁR
Currently playing in theaters from Focus Features is TÁR, written and directed by Oscar-nominated American filmmaker Todd Field and starring Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Mark Strong, Julian Glover, Allan Corduner, and Sylvia Flote.
The film first premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival and then at the New York Film Festival before hitting theaters.
Cate Blanchett stars as Lydia Tár, the groundbreaking conductor of a major German Orchestra. We meet Tár at the height of her career, as she's preparing both a book launch and much-anticipated live performance of Mahler's Fifth Symphony. Over the ensuing weeks her life begins to unravel in a singularly modern way. The result is a searing examination of power, and its impact and durability in today's society.
A Two-Time Academy Award winner for her supporting role as Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator and her lead role in Woody Allen's comedy-drama Blue Jasmine, Blanchett could be her way to her eighth Oscar nomination with her role in this film. She was recently seen in Guillermo Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley and the Adam McKay film Don’t Look Up. She will next be voicing Sprezzatura the Monkey in Del Toro’s Pinocchio.
For Nina Hoss, who plays a concertmaster and Lydia's wife Sharon Goodnow, she will next be seen in the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Her previous TV and film credits include a recurring role on Showtime’s Homeland, A Woman in Berlin, Barbara, My Little Sister, and The Contractor.
Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales caught up with Blanchett and Hoss as they spoke their characters in the film.
