Exclusive: Composer Chanda Dancy on scoring Devotion music
Now playing in theaters from Sony Pictures is the historical war epic “Devotion,” from director J.D. Dillard (“Sweetheart”) and starring Jonathan Majors (Da Five Bloods, Lovecraft Country) and Glen Powell (Hidden Figures, Top Gun: Maverick). The film is an aerial war epic based on the bestselling book of the same name.
Set in 1950, as the Cold War looms, Majors and Powell play Jesse L. Brown and Tom Hudner, elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots who form a firm friendship that is tested on the battlefield when one of them is shot down behind enemy lines. Their heroic sacrifices would ultimately make them the Navy's most celebrated wingmen.
Also cast in the film are Christina Jackson as Jesse’s wife Daisy Brown, Thomas Sadoski as Dick Cevoli, Joe Jonas as Marty Goode, and Serinda Swan as Elizabeth Taylor.
Scoring the music to the film is composer Chanda Dancy, who is known for her work on the Sundance award winning documentary “Aftershock” (Disney/Onyx Collective), the hit Netflix TV Original “The Defeated” starring Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), the Korean War era epic “Devotion” starring Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, and the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, directed by Kasi Lemmons.
An accomplished film and television composer with over 18 years of experience and an emerging classical concert composer, the Texas native was once honored alongside great film composer, John Williams.
