Exclusive: Director Lee Daniels, Andra Day, Glenn Close and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor talk The Deliverance

Hitting Netflix on August 30, 2024 and a brief theatrical run is Academy Award nominated director Lee Daniels’ upcoming film The Deliverance, starring Oscar nominee Andra Day, Oscar nominee Glenn Close, Oscar winner Mo’Nique, Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, Demi Singleton, Tasha Smith, with Omar Epps, Caleb McLaughlin, and Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

Written by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum and inspired by a true story, the film centers on Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons. She moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children.

The film was produced by Lee Daniels, Tucker Tooley, Pamela Oas Williams, Jackson Nguyen, Todd Crites with Jahil Fisher, Simone Sheffield, Jeremy Green serving as co-producers.

For Daniels, this is his first film he’s directed since he did 2021’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday, which reunites him with Andra Day, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance. Daniels also reunites with Mo’Nique, who won the Academy Award for her performance in his 2009’s film Precious. Daniels also served as an executive producer to Mo’Nique’s last film The Reading, which played on BET+.

Best known for her music, Day has won several accolades including a Grammy Award, a Children's and Family Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, along with nomination for an Academy Award. Day made her acting debut with her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lee Daniels' biopic The United States vs. Billie Holiday, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She will next be seen in Exhibiting Forgiveness, opposite André Holland, John Earl Jelks and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

Close most recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series The New Look. She is an eight-time Academy Award nominee, been nominated for 14 Emmy Awards including three wins and has earned many more accolades across her career in including three Tony Award wins. Close will next appear in the ensemble cast of Hulu‘s All’s Fair, a new legal series from Ryan Murphy and Kim Kardashian.

Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor has been on a tear in 2024. This year alone, the Academy Award nominated actress has appeared in Ava DuVernay’s Origin, and Tina Mabry’s The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat, which was just released on Hulu. She will then come back on the small screen in Season 2 of 61st Street, which will be on The CW. Later this year, Ellis-Taylor will appear in Exhibiting Forgiveness, opposite André Holland, Andra Day, and John Earl Jelks, as well as RaMell Ross’s film adaptation of The Nickel Boys.
