Coming out this week is the action adventure film Jungle Cruise, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramírez and Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti. “Jungle Cruise” will release simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on Friday, July 30.

Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt). Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat.

Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.

For Edgar Ramirez, who plays Frank’s nemesis Aguirre, the Venezuelan actor had a blast working on the film. While filming his scenes in Atlanta, he worked with the CGI folks on getting the right look for his character. Among his film credits are The Bourne Identity, Carlos, Wrath of the Titans, Zero Dark Thirty, Point Break, Hands of Stone, and The Last Days of American Crime. He received an Emmy nomination for his lead performance in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and was recently seen opposite Nicole Kidman in HBO’s The Undoing.

BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales recently spoke with Ramirez on his experience working on this adventurous film.
