Exclusive: Emayatzy Corinealdi and McKinley Freeman talk Hulu and Onyx Collective's Reasonable Doubt
Coming out this week on Hulu is the original series ‘Reasonable Doubt,’ the first scripted drama from Onyx Collective. The series stars Emayatzy Corinealdi, along with Michael Ealy, Sean Patrick Thomas, McKinley Freeman, TJ Mixson, Aderinsola Olabode, Tim Jo and Angela Grovey.
REASONABLE DOUBT follows a high-powered criminal defense attorney from Los Angeles, Jacqueline “Jax” Stewart, as she fiercely bucks the justice system through wild interpretations of the law and sometimes questionable ethics, all while trying to deal with a failing marriage and the pitfalls of motherhood.
"Reasonable Doubt" is created, written and executive produced by Raamla Mohamed. Kerry Washington directs and executive produces alongside Pilar Savone for Simpson Street and Larry Wilmore via Wilmore Films.
Corinealdi is best known for her breakout performance in Ava DuVernay’s Middle of Nowhere, which earned her a Breakthrough Actor honor at the Gotham Awards and a Best Actress Independent Spirit Award nomination. She also starred in Miles Ahead opposite Don Cheadle, and in Karyn Kusama’s psychological thriller The Invitation. Her TV credits include Hand of God, Ballers and The Red Line.
Freeman plays Lewis, Jax’s husband, the father of their two children, a successful video game designer and a genuinely good guy. Freeman recently appeared on the Fox drama Our Kind of People and in a recurring role in the critically-acclaimed OWN drama Queen Sugar. Other credits include 9-1-1, Scandal, and Major Crimes.
Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Corinealdi and Freeman regarding their roles on the series.
