Exclusive: Executive Producer Prentice Penny talks #Insecure Fifth and Final Season
Currently airing on HBO is the fifth and final season of its acclaimed comedy series Insecure. The final episodes are debuting weekly on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max.
Starring NAACP Image Award winner and six-time Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Issa Rae, the series continues to follow our favorite characters as they evaluate their relationships, both new and old, in an effort to figure out who and what comes with them in this next phase of their lives.
The fifth season also stars series regulars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales and Courtney Taylor.
INSECURE was created by Issa Rae & Larry Wilmore; executive produced by Issa Rae, Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Amy Aniobi and Jim Kleverweis.
For Penny, who recently directed his first feature last year with Netflix’s Uncorked, it’s been a fun ride being the showrunner for Insecure for the last five seasons as well as being the executive producer and a writer for the series. The show has been loved by many for its stories, humor, and relationships between its main characters. Will Issa and Lawrence get back together? How does Lawrence handle being a daddy? Is Condola still in the picture? Will Molly ever find true love and be happy? These are the burning questions that fans have been waiting for throughout the summer.
With this being the last season, Penny is aiming to leave on a high note and audiences entertained. In speaking with BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales, he goes over the final season, working with the cast and EP Melina Matsoukas and what fans should expect.
