Exclusive: Ilana Glazer, Michelle Buteau and director Pamela Adlon talk Babes

Hitting theaters on May 17 from Neon is the comedy film Babes, directed by Pamela Adlon, making her feature directorial debut with this project after creating and directing episodes of the series "Better Things" most recently. The film was co-written and stars Ilana Glazer as Eden and Michelle Buteau as Dawn, along with John Carroll LynchHasan MinhajStephan JamesOliver Platt, and Sandra Bernhard.

Pamela Adlon's new comdedy Babes follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Ilana Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), having grown up together in NYC, now firmly in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge yet. Babes delves into the complexities of female friendship with a blend of laughter, tears, and labor pains.

The screenplay is written by Ilana Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz. Produced by Ilana Glazer, Josh Rabinowitz, Susie Fox, Ashley Fox, and Breean Pojunas. This just premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival last month in the Headliner section there.

Glazer co-created and co-starred, with Abbi Jacobson, in the Comedy Central series Broad City, which is based on the web series of the same name. Glazer also starred in the 2017 film Rough Night and released her debut stand-up comedy special, The Planet Is Burning, in January 2020. In 2022, she won the Tony Award for Best Musical for serving as a producer for the Broadway show A Strange Loop.

Buteau has appeared in the movies such as Someone Great, Isn't It Romantic, Sell By, and Always Be My Maybe. Buteau appeared in two television series, starring in First Wives Club and Tales of the City. She recently published her first book, a collection of personal essays titled Survival of the Thickest, with Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. A TV adaptation of the memoir premiered July 13, 2023 on Netflix

Adlon makes her feature directorial debut with this film. She is known for voicing Bobby Hill in the animated comedy series King of the Hill (1997–2010),[6] for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award. From 2016 to 2022, Adlon starred as Sam Fox on the acclaimed FX comedy-drama series Better Things, which she also co-created, wrote, produced, and directed. The series won a Peabody Award, and she was nominated twice for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Her credits alson include Californication, King of the Hill, FX’s Louie, Archer, Big Mouth, Bob’s Burgers, Rick & Morty, Bumblebee, Holler, Fairfax and countless others.
