Exclusive: Joel Edgerton and Dev Patel on their interpretation of The Green Knight
Coming out this week from A24 is The Green Knight, a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table from writer-director David Lowery. The film stars Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan and Ralph Ineson.
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.
Patel is best known for his performance in Danny Boyle's Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire. He has since starred in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Aaron Sorkin's HBO drama series The Newsroom, Lion, for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and more recently Armando Iannucci's The Personal History of David Copperfield.
Edgerton, who plays Lord in the film, was last seen opposite Timothee Chalamet in The King. His previous film credits include Animal Kingdom, Warrior, The Thing, Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Black Mass, Midnight Special, Bright with Will Smith and Boy Erased.
