Exclusive: Lil Rel Howery talks Free Guy, Video Games and Chicago Bulls new roster

Coming out this week from 20th Century Studios is Shawn Levy’s forthcoming action-comedy film Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Taika Waititi. The film will hit theaters on August 13, 2021.

Written by Matt Lieberman, the epic adventure-comedy “Free Guy” tells the story of a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales recently caught up with Lil Rel Howery, who plays Buddy in the film. A comedian and actor, Howery is best known for his roles in NBC's comedy series The Carmichael Show, and as TSA officer Rod Williams in the horror film Get Out. He also starred in the TV series Rel, which he also created and co-produced. Other film credits include Uncle Drew, Bird Box, The Photograph, Judas and the Black Messiah, Tom & Jerry, Bad Trip and the upcoming Vacation Friends.
