Exclusive: Lucas Till & Lex Scott Davis Talk ‘Son of the South’

Coming out this week from Vertical Entertainment in select theaters, VOD & digital is Son of the South, directed by Barry Alexander Brown and executive produced by Spike Lee.

The film stars Lucas Till, Lucy Hale, Lex Scott Davis, Julia Ormond, Cedric the Entertainer, Dexter Darden, Chaka Forman, Sharone Lanier, Brian Dennehy, Shamier Anderson, Jake Abel and Ludi Lin.

Based on Bob Zellner’s autobiography The Wrong Side of Murder Creek and written by Brown, the film follows the true-life story of Zellner, an Alabama native and grandson of a Birmingham Klansman who is pulled into the center of the civil rights movement. The spring and summer of 1961 challenged the 22-year old to rethink his beliefs as he witnessed the heroism of John Lewis during the Montgomery Freedom Riders riot in May of that year.

Brown is best known for collaborations with Spike Lee, he has edited some classic Spike Lee films like Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), Inside Man (2006), and BlacKkKlansman (2018), which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing at the 91st Academy Awards.
