Exclusive: Natalie Portman on Thor: Love and Thunder, being Jane Foster & working with Bale and Thompson again
Hitting theaters on July 8 is Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder,” starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Kieron L. Dyer, and Jonny Brugh.
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, “Thor: Love and Thunder” opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
For Portman, who’s back to playing Jane Foster/ The Mighty Thor after last appearing in 2011’s Thor and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, she get to work again with Hemsworth for a third time and reunites with Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson for a second time. In 2015, Portman and Bale starred in Terrence Malice’s Knights of Cup and in 2017 appeared with Thompson in the sci-fi film Annihilation. In between The Dark World and Love and Thunder, Portman had appeared in Jane Got a Gun, Jackie, Vox Lux, and Lucy in the Sky.
In speaking with Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales, Portman goes her return to the Marvel world and working with a cast she’s collaborated before with.
