Exclusive: Producer DeVon Franklin on making his acting debut in Jesus Revolution

Playing in theaters on Feb. 24 is the faith based film Jesus Revolution, directed by Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle from a script written by Jon Gunn & Jon Erwin. The cast includes Joel Courtney, Jonathan Roumie, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Anna Grace Barlow, Kelsey Grammer, Nic Bishop, Jackson Robert Scott, Nicholas Cirillo, Ally Ioannides, Julia Campbell, Mina Sundwall, DeVon Franklin, Charlie Morgan Patton, and Jolie Jenkins.

In the 1970s, young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.

For DeVon Franklin, the former Sony Pictures Entertainment executive, is making his acting debut in the film. He plays a TIMES Magazine reporter named Josiah. While serving as president and CEO of his Franklin Entertainment production company and a governor-at-large of the Motion Picture Academy, he’s produced inspirational films such as “Breakthrough,” “The Star” and “Miracles From Heaven.” His upcoming producing project will be “Flamin’ Hot,” Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut. That film will premiere at the South by Southwest film festival in March before it hits Hulu on June 9.

In addition to his work as a producer, DeVon is also the author of Produced By Faith, The Success Commandments, The Wait, The Truth About Men, Live Free, and his new Audible Original It Takes A Woman, which is a deeply personal look into the tragedy that transformed his family’s life forever

Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Franklin on his acting debut and the projects he likes to get involved with.
