Airing on Starz this week is "BMF" (Black Mafia Family), the 8-episode series from executive producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, premiering Sunday, Sept. 26.

“BMF” is inspired by the true story of two brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in this country. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory’s charismatic leadership, Terry “Southwest T” Flenory’s business acumen and the fraternal partnership’s vision beyond the drug trade and into the world of hip-hop would render the brothers iconic on a global level. Their unwavering belief in family loyalty would be the cornerstone of their partnership and the crux of their eventual estrangement. This is a story about love, kinship and capitalism in the pursuit of the American dream.

The series stars stars Demetrius Flenory, Jr, Da'Vinchi, Russell Hornsby, Michole Briana White, Ajiona Alexus, Eric Kofi Abrefa, Myles Truitt, Steve Harris, and Wood Harris with special appearances by Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Lala Anthony, Serayah, Kash Doll and Lil Zane.

“BMF” is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (co-creator of the “Power” Universe, “For Life”), alongside showrunner, executive producer, writer and Detroit native Randy Huggins (“Star,” “Rebel,” “Power”). Tasha Smith (“Empire,” “Power,” Why Did I Get Married?) is set to direct multiple episodes and executive produce.

Hornsby plays Charles Flenory, the principled patriarch of the Flenory family and a struggling musician who uses faith, fortitude and humor to keep his family on the straight and narrow as he tries to save Terry from the outsized ambition and influence of his older brother Demetrius. Hornsby is also known for his roles in films like “Creed II,” “The Hate U Give” and “Fences” and in TV shows like “Grimm,” “The Affair,” and “Seven Seconds.”

Michole Briana White plays matriarch Lucille Flenory, Demetrius, Terry and Nicole's strong-willed and loving mother to her children. White most recently appeared in Michael Bay’s feature Songbird and will next be seen in upcoming thriller Six Feet and in James Wan’s horror film Malignant. She can currently be seen in a recurring role on Amazon’s Goliath and recently recurred on the second season of Dead To Me.

BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Hornsby and White, who had previously worked together on stage.
