Exclusive: Sam Elliott talks Yellowstone prequel 1883 and playing strong characters
Currently playing on the Paramount Network is the “Yellowstone” Prequel “1883,” created by Academy Award Nominee Taylor Sheridan.
1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.
Academy Award® nominee legend Sam Elliott, Grammy Award® Winner Tim McGraw, Grammy Award Winner Faith Hill, Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May and LaMonica Garrett.
Sam Elliott plays Shea Brennan, in the employ of the Pinkerton Agency in leading the expedition. He was the captain of a "Buffalo Soldier" regiment. Brennan's wife Helen and daughter both die of Smallpox right before the start of the expedition. While mourning their deaths, he set fire to their home and contemplated suicide, but was interrupted by the arrival of Thomas. His new goal is to see the virgin frontier one final time before it's spoiled by man, in which afterwards he will be finished with living.
Recently Oscar nominated for his role in the musical drama A Star Is Born, and with impressive list of notable films that include Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Quick and the Dead, Gettysburg, Tombstone, Hulk, and Justified, Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales caught up with Elliot as he talked about his role in 1883 and playing strong characters throughout his career. Elliot is also appearing in the TV series MacGruber, which stars Will Forte.
