Exclusive: Saweetie and Russell Hornsby talk BMF Season 3

Currently playing on Starz is Season Three of “BMF,” which continues the story of the inspiring true legends, brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), who founded one of the most influential crime families in the country, the Black Mafia Family.

We parachute into the early '90s in season three, with Meech moving to Atlanta, hoping to grow the BMF empire in the south and rise to the top of the Atlanta drug scene. At the same time, Terry remains in the “D,” handling business there, not yet aware of all the dangers lurking around the corner. Charles Flenory (Russell Hornsby) and Lucille Flenory’s (Michole Briana White) marriage remains on the rocks, and Detective Bryant (Steve Harris), on probation from work, and Detective Jin (Kelly Hu) find themselves on opposite sides of the law, but might find common ground in their determination to take down BMF. Additionally, season three includes special guest stars recurring throughout the season, who cross paths with Meech and Terry in this next phase of their unbelievable journey.

Rapper and singer Saweetie, whose real name is Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, plays Keeya, a love interest of Lil Meech. Not only has she had hits songs such as ‘Mr. Type,’ ‘Tap In,’ and ‘Best Friend,’ she’s been Grammy nominated. As she ventures in the acting world, the California native will continue to hone her craft and get more opportunities.

As for Russell Hornsby, his portrayal of Charles Flenory in third season is a test of patience. Not only is he still trying to save his marriage to Lucille after he was caught cheating, but he’s also resisting the the temptation of the lifestyle that Lil Meech can offer if he accepts who is his son. Hornsby is just coming from starring on the Off-Broadway production of Dominique Morisseau’s Sunset Baby.

Blackfilmndtv.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Saweetie on her new role and Russell Hornsby’s portrayal of Charles Flenory this season.
