Exclusive: The Last Voyage of the Demeter interviews with Corey Hawkins, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, and director André Øvredal

Hitting theaters this week from Universal Pictures is the horror thriller The Last Voyage of the Demeter, directed by Norwegian genre filmmaker André Øvredal and starring Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon BrionesStefan KapicicNikolai Nikolaeff, and Javier Botet.

Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.

Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.

The film stars Corey Hawkins as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, Aisling Franciosi as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian as the Demeter’s first mate.

The screenplay is written by Bragi F. Schut, Stefan Ruzowitzky and Zak Olkewicz; inspired by "The Captain's Log" chapter of Bram Stoker's classic novel.

Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Blackfilmandtv.com's Wilson Morales spoke with Corey Hawkins, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian on checking the script to see if they would die first and director André Øvredal on bringing this story to the big screen.
