Exclusive: Them: The Scare interviews with Deborah Ayorinde, Pam Grier, Luke James, Joshua J. Williams and Little Marvin

Now playing on Prime Video is the horror anthology series, “Them: The Scare.” Scheduled for release on Thursday, April 25, 2024, the second installment is filled with eight bone-chilling episodes, available globally in over 240 countries and territories upon launch.

Following the success of the first installment, subtitled “Covenant” and set in 1952 Compton, the series shifts its focus to Los Angeles in 1991. LAPD Homicide Detective Dawn Reeve, portrayed by returning season 1 star Deborah Ayorinde, takes the lead in investigating a heinous murder that sends shockwaves through the tight-knit community.

The cast also includes Pam Grier as “Athena” and Grammy-nominated musician/actor Luke James in the role of “Edmund Gaines.” Additional cast members such as Joshua J. Williams, Jeremy Bobb, Wayne Knight, Carlito Olivero, Charles Brice, and Iman Shumpert.

Ayorinde’s Det. Reeve, one of the only women of color in the robbery homicide division, is sharp and observant. She is assigned to a new case: a gruesome murder that has left the most hardened detectives shaken and it makes her become uncharacteristically unnerved. As Dawn draws closer to the truth, something malevolent grips her and her family.

Grier will portray Dawn’s mother, Athena. She’s eticulous, clever and prideful, but her mama bear qualities hide secrets. James plays Edmund Gaines, an aspiring actor who appears to be a sensitive soul but has a deep void within him. Former NBA player Shumpert plays Dawn’s ex, Corey, a musician who’s frequently on the road.

Williams is cast as Kelvin “Kel” Reeve, Dawn’s teenage son, who’s harboring a secret from both his mom and his grandmother. And Bobb will play Detective Ronald McKinney, Dawn’s partner, who has a reputation for closing cases quickly and through sometimes questionable means.

Knight recurs as Lt. Schiff, Dawn’s supervisor at the LAPD. Olivero will play Joaquin Diaz, a newly minted detective who wants to impress Dawn. Brice plays Reggie Marks, a stylish and charming attorney for the city of Los Angeles.
