Exclusive: Tiffany Haddish talks The Card Counter and Flo Jo Biopic
Coming out this week from Focus Features is the revenge thriller The Card Counter, written and directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Schrader and starring Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe. With Martin Scorsese as one of the executive producers, Focus Features will release THE CARD COUNTER in theaters on September 10, 2021.
Tell (Isaac) just wants to play cards. His spartan existence on the casino trail is shattered when he is approached by Cirk (Sheridan), a vulnerable and angry young man seeking help to execute his plan for revenge on a military colonel (Dafoe). Tell sees a chance at redemption through his relationship with Cirk. But keeping Cirk on the straight-and-narrow proves impossible, dragging Tell back into the darkness of his past.
Best known for her breakout role in Malcolm D. Lee’s comedic blockbuster Girls Trip, Haddis has been in high demand ever since. With roles in Like a Boss, The Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Sponge on the Run, The Secret Life of Pets 2, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Night School, Nobody’s Fool, Kids Say the Darndest Things, Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam CJ Walker, The Last O.G. and The Carmichael Show, she’s certainly has established herself as a comedic force to be reckon with.
It’s not that often we get to see her in a dramatic film, with the exception of The Kitchen, which co-starred Melissa McCarthy and Common. In working with Paul Schrader on this film and upcoming film projects such as The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, opposite Nicolas Cage and The Untitled Flo Jo Biopic, Haddish is reaching new heights in her acting career.
