Exclusive: Tunji Kasim talks Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and playing Adolphus
Now playing on Netflix is Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the highly anticipated six-episode limited series centered on Queen Charlotte's rise to prominence and power This Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen's marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.
Amarteifio’s Charlotte is betrothed to the king of England against her will and arrives in London only to realize the royal family isn’t what she expected. As she learns to navigate the palace, the ‘ton and her unpredictable husband, she grows into one of Europe’s most unforgettable monarchs.
The cast Includes: Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) reprising their roles from Bridgerton in this series.
India Amarteifio plays Young Queen Charlotte. Michelle Fairley plays Princess Augusta. Corey Mylchreest plays Young King George. Arsema Thomas (television debut) plays Young Agatha Danbury. Rounding out the cast are Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, and Hugh Sachs (Bridgerton Seasons 1 & 2) as Brimsley (older).
For Kasim, who plays Queen Charlotte’s brother Adolphus, this is a major role for the Scotland native . Adolphus is the leader of his county and head of the family, two roles that don’t often go hand in hand. He must make an impossible choice between what is best for his country, and what is best for his little sister, Queen Charlotte.
On stage Tunji went on to star in The Brothers Size written by Oscar winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (“Moonlight”) and directed by Bijan Sheibani. He was nominated for an Ian Charleston Award for starring in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Julius Caesar and went on to be in a handful of plays with the RSC. Film and television credits for Tunji include Bill Condon’s “Good Liar,” Dan Krauss’ “The Kill Team,” and starring as Ned ‘Nick’ Nickerson on the CW’s supernatural thriller/drama series “Nancy Drew,” which ran for four seasons.
