Exclusive: Woody McClain talks Power Book II: Ghost Season 3, Cane's Ruthlessness, and His Career

Currently playing on Starz is the third season of the acclaimed series Power Book II: Ghost, which stars Michael Rainey Jr., Mary J. Blige, Shane Johnson, Gianni PaoloCliff “Method Man” SmithLarenz TateBerto ColonWoody McClainLovell Adams-GrayLaToya Tonodeo, Alix Lapri, Paton AshbrookMonique CurnenKeesha Sharp, David Walton, Moriah Brown, and Caroline Chikezie.

The third season of “Power Book II: Ghost” kicks off with Tariq St. Patrick determined to get his trust, get back to his family, and get out of the game for good. The emergence of a ruthless new connect interrupts Tariq’s plans to reunite with Tasha and Yaz and puts him, Brayden, and Effie back into business with the Tejadas as they’re challenged to move more weight than ever before.

When Brayden brings Tariq in as an intern at his family’s hedge fund Weston Holdings, the drug business expands beyond Stansfield and the streets onto Wall Street, while Tariq is also shown an alternate, legitimate path to success. Monet Tejada, set ablaze by the death of her son Zeke Cross, is willing to pay a hefty price to avenge her firstborn and keep the rest of her children - and the business - in line as she works closely with Davis MacLean to solve Zeke’s murder and keep the feds off her trail.  Business is booming when a staggering reveal forces Tariq to reckon with a betrayal from those closest to him... and a R.I.C.O. investigation mounting into the entire drug enterprise, pulling Tariq deeper into the business and even closer to the legacy of his father.

For Woody McClain, who plays the ruthless Cane Tejada, the son of Mary J. Blige’s character, the Charleston, South Carolina native seems to be having a ball this season. So far (through Episode 3) we’ve seen Cane put the squeeze on his own father Lorenzo, pressure Brayden Weston to start being a real gangster, and try to lore away Effie from Tariq; all while trying to be the true head of the family while his mother Monet is still depressed over her son’s Zeke’s death.

In less than a decade, McClain has made himself a household name within the Black community. Prior to Ghost, he was best known for his critically acclaimed role as ‘Bobby Brown’ in the 2017 BET miniseries “The New Edition Story” followed by the 2018 BET miniseries “The Bobby Brown Story.” The former was BET’s highest viewed show in BET history. Even before he was seen on the big and small screen, he excelled as a professional dancer and performed with artists including Chris Brown and Fifth Harmony. From music to acting and even comedy, where he produced content after his version of Kevin Hart's "Permission to Cuss" skit went viral and caught Hart's attention, McClain has a diverse range of talent in different fields.

Woody will next be seen in the film “Desperation Road”, opposite Mel Gibson and Garrett Hedlund, which is based off the novel of the same name. His previous film credits include “The Harder They Fall” opposite Jonathan Majors and Regina King, and “Canal Street” opposite Bryshere Gray and Mekhi Phifer.

As Power Book II: Ghost was already renewed for a 4th season, ahead of the 3rd season premiere, there’s no telling if Woody McClain/ Cane Tejada will be back. At this point, we can just sit back and enjoy the fun ride of watching him give his all into this character. Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales recently spoke with McClain on his role of Cane this season and his career thus far.
