Exclusive: Writer and Creator Daniel Lawrence Taylor talks Tubi’s new comedy series Boarders
Currently playing on Tubi is Boarders, a new series that follows the lives of five talented Black teenagers from inner-city London as they navigate life at an elite boarding school. Written and created by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Daniel Lawrence Taylor. the cast includes Josh Tedeku as “Jaheim,” Jodie Campbell as “Leah,” Myles Kamwendo as “Omar,” Sekou Diaby as “Toby,” and Aruna Jalloh as “Femi.”
BOARDERS is a high energy, warm and funny coming of age drama which follows the lives of five Black inner city school teenagers who find themselves on scholarships to one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious boarding schools, St. Gilberts. The series will see these students navigate a new world, forming new friendships along the way while also going on journeys of self-discovery.
BOARDERS is produced by Studio Lambert in association with All3Media International for the BBC. BOARDERS will be branded as a Tubi Original in North America
Directing the series are Ethosheia Hylton (“African Queens,” “Sanditon”) and Sarmad Masud (“You Don’t Know Me,” “Bulletproof”). Executive producers are Daniel Lawrence Taylor, and Madeleine Sinclair and Susan Hogg for Studio Lambert, and Nawfal Faizullah and Ayela Butt for the BBC.
Taylor previously created, wrote and starred in the ITV2 sitcom Timewasters, which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2018 for Best Scripted Comedy. In 2018, Taylor was named as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit.
