Exclusive: Writer-director Coke Daniels talks indie suspense thriller ‘Karen’
Now playing in select theaters and video-on-demand is writer-director Coke Daniels’ indie suspense thriller ‘Karen,’ starring Orange Is The New Black alum Taryn Manning, Cory Hardrict and Jasmine Burke. The film will air on BET on Tuesday, September 14.
A hot yet controversial topic, Karen follows a racist White woman (Manning) who makes it her mission to displace the new Black family who just moved into the neighborhood. Accustomed to having her way, Karen isn’t prepared for the family who is determined not to back down without a fight.
Hardrict stars as Malik, a community activist in Atlanta dedicated to his wife Imani (Burke) and fighting social injustices.
Also featured in the film are Gregory Alan Williams, V. Bozeman and Duane Finley.
BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales recently caught up with writer-director-producer Coke Daniels, whose film credits include “My Baby’s Daddy” (as writer and co-producer), and “Who Made The Potatoe Salad,” and “His, Hers & the Truth,” which premiered at the 2019 ABFF in Miami and was acquired by BET and UMC. His last film was the dramedy “Fruits of the Hearts” starring Wendy Raquel Robinson (“The Game”) and rapper turned actress Niatia “Lil Mama” Kirkland.
