Exclusive: Yara Shahidi on playing Tinker Bell in Peter Pan & Wendy

Now playing on Disney+ is “Peter Pan & Wendy,” a live-action reimagining of the J.M. Barrie novel and the 1953 animated classic. Directed by David Lowery (“The Green Knight,” “Pete’s Dragon”), the film stars Alexander Molony, Ever Anderson, Jude Law, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Jim Gaffigan, Alan Tudyk, Yara Shahidi, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker, , Florence Bensberg, Sebastian Billingsley-Rodriguez, Noah Matthews Matofsky, Caelan Edie, Kelsey Yates, Skyler Yates, and Diana Tsoy.

“Peter Pan & Wendy” introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.

Playing the role of Tinker Bell is Yara Shahidi, who is best known for her role as Zoey Johnson on the sitcom Black-ish and its spin-off series Grown-ish. Tinker Bell is Peter's fairy companion and friend. On the film side, she starred in the YA adaptation of The Sun Is Also a Star. She recently appeared in the Apple TV+ anthology series Extrapolations.
