Julianne Moore, Ben Platt and Amandla Stenberg talk Dear Evan Hansen
Coming out this week from Universal Pictures is Dear Evan Hansen, the forthcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, featuring Ben Platt as he reprises his Tony-winning titular role. The film arrives in theaters on September 24 and centers around an isolated high schooler aching for understanding and belonging amid the chaos and cruelty of the social-media age.
Dear Evan Hansen will again be led by original star Ben Platt as he reprises the titular role from breathtaking, generation-defining Broadway phenomenon. The musical won multiple Tony Awards in 2017, including Best Musical as well as Best Actor and Best Actress for performances of Platt and Rachel Bay Jones.
Joining Platt are six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams as Cynthia Murphy, Oscar winner Julianne Moore as Heidi Hansen, Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) as Zoe Murphy, Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) as Alana Beck, Colton Ryan (Little Voice) as Connor Murphy, Nik Dodani (Atypical) as Jared Kleinman, DeMarius Copes (Broadway’s Mean Girls) as Oliver and Danny Pino (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Larry Murphy.
During a roundtable discussion with other journalists, Moore, Platt and Stenberg discussed their experiences working on the film and Platt going over his decision to play the role again years after his Tony Award win.
