Showrunner, EP and Head Writer Felicia D. Henderson talks Vampire-Hunter Series First Kill

Currently on Netflix is the vampire-hunter, romantic series First Kill, which is based on the short story by New York Times best-selling author Victoria “V. E.” Schwab, who is also a writer and executive producer for the series.

The cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Imani Lewis, Elizabeth Mitchell, Aubin Wise, Gracie Dzienny, Dominic Goodman, Phillip Mullings, Jr., and Jason R. Moore.

When it's time for teenage vampire Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope (Imani Lewis). But much to Juliette's surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won't be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.

Henderson has been making a name for herself as a leading black female Showrunner by writing and co-executive producing such high profile shows as “Fringe,” “Gossip Girl,” Marvel’s “The Punisher,” “Soul Food” and “Empire,” among many many others. She also co-created and executive produced “The Quad,” a one-hour drama set on the campus of an HBCU. Her career started with sitcoms such as “Family Matters,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Sister Sister,” and “Moesha.”

She is also developing the WWII drama “Avenger Field” for Peacock. The series stars Renée Zellweger as Jackie Cochran, who co-founded the U.S. Army’s first women’s pilot training program; and at the time of her death, in 1980, was the most accomplished American pilot, male or female, in American history.

Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales recently caught up with Henderson as she about her multiple roles behind the scenes on First Kill.
