Ariana DeBose Joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson In Sony’s Kraven the Hunter

Deadline is reporting that Oscar nominee Ariana DeBose (West Side Story, Hamilton) has joined Sony Pictures’ Kraven the Hunter alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson who will lead in the titular antihero role. The film is expected to be released on January 13, 2023.

DeBose’s character is currently unconfirmed but sources are reporting DeBose will likely play Calypso in the film. The movie also stars Russell Crowe and Fred Hechinger.

Calypso is described as a “voodoo priestess who utilizes magic potions, and besides being an adversary of Spider-Man, she is also the occasional partner and lover of Kraven.”

In Kraven the Hunter, Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff (Taylor-Johnson), aka Kraven the Hunter, is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.

Kraven the Hunter will be directed by Oscar nominee J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, A Most Violent Year, Triple Frontier) from a screenplay by Richard Wenk (The Equalizer films, The Magnificent Seven, The Mechanic), Matt Holloway, and Art Marcum. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are attached to produce the project. The movie is being billed as the next chapter of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU).

DeBose was recently Oscar nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.
