Black Film Critics Circle Names ‘Sing Sing’ Best Film; Cynthia Erivo & Colman Domingo Among Winners For 2024

The Black Film Critics Circle (BFCC) has voted “SING SING” Best Film of 2024, CYNTHIA ERIVO Best Actress and COLMAN DOMINGO Best Actor for their work in “WICKED” and “SING SING” respectively. And for Best Director RAMELL ROSS for “NICKEL BOYS”. The announcement was made today by Mike Sargent, co-president, of BFCC. Votes were cast and tabulated in New York City at the organization’s annual meeting on December 15, 2024.

Recognizing achievements in theatrical motion pictures, the BFCC awarded prizes in 13 categories including best picture, best director, original and adapted screenplay, best actor, best actress, best-supporting actor, best supporting actress, best animated feature, best independent film, best documentary feature, best foreign film, and best ensemble. Special Signature awards are also given to industry pioneers and rising stars.

“The diversity and quality of Black films and Black-led stories this year highlights the rich tapestry of our culture, showcasing the true multiculturalism of our country. This progress not only reflects greater representation on screen but also paves the way for more filmmakers to share their voices.” says Sargent. “It broadens the palette of audiences, cultivating a deeper appreciation for these stories and the perspectives they bring.”

Co-president Wilson Morales adds “The fact that an actress like Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor has been involved in 4-5 major projects this year, including Nickel Boys, Exhibiting Forgiveness, The Deliverance, and The Supremes at Earl’s,” says Morales “is a testament to both her immense talent and the long-overdue opportunities now being afforded to deserving Black artists.”
