Bron Life, Red Crown Productions, and Delirio Films to Produce Feature Documentary On Baseball Legend Reggie Jackson
BRON Life, the non-scripted division of BRON, has partnered with Delirio Films and Red Crown Productions, to produce the feature documentary REGGIE, with Creative Wealth Media financing. The film is directed by Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Stapleton (Shut up and Dribble and Pride on FX) and tells the story of Reggie Jackson, the sports megastar of the 70’s. Five-time World Series champion and 14-time All-Star, Jackson’s megawatt persona both on and off the field played a large part in shaping the discussion around race in sports and whose legacy reverberates in that same discussion today.
Jackson started his professional career in Birmingham at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, moving to Oakland during the rise of the Black Panther Party, and landing in New York City as the Yankees’ first Black superstar when the Bronx was burning. The film will examine the bigger picture intersection of race and sports, contextualizing the current dialogues happening in professional sports and the country as a whole.
“Championing underrepresented voices and perspectives has always been integral to BRON’s mission. We feel honored to be given the opportunity to tell Reggie’s story and know that his struggles and successes will resonate with a broad audience,” BRON’s Brenda Gilbert and Aaron L. Gilbert stated. “BRON Life is just getting started bringing powerful non-fiction narratives to market and we’re thrilled to come out the gate swinging with this inspirational project.”
REGGIE is the follow-up documentary from Deliro Films' They Call Me Magic which recently debuted on AppleTV+.
“There are only so many athletes with the level of superstardom that both Magic and Michael Jordan have, “ said Chris Leggett and Rafael Marmor from Delirio Films (Ask Dr. Ruth, Short Game, They Call Me Magic) ”Reggie was the precursor to them both and the impact his story has on what is going on in sports today is unparalleled,“
Producers include Leggett and Marmor from Delirio Films; Daniel Crown and Yoni Liebling from Red Crown Productions (Beast of No Nation); and Brenda Gilbert and Aaron L. Gilbert serve as executive producers on behalf of BRON in association with Creative Wealth Media’s Jason Cloth and Suraj Maraboyina.
BRON Releasing will be representing sales and aiming to premiere the film around the next world series.
REGGIE is the second documentary feature from BRON, following the recently announced Rev. Al Sharpton documentary Loudmouth, selected by the Tribeca Festival as the Closing Night film this June.
