Director Ellie Foumbi's Award-Winning ‘Our Father, The Devil’ Hits Theaters Aug. 25

Hitting theaters from Fandor and Cineverse on Aug 25 in NYC at the Quad Cinema and Sep 1 in LA at the Laemmle Royal is ‘Our Father, The Devil,’ director Ellie Foumbi's acclaimed thriller and nominee for Best Feature at the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards

Ellie Foumbi's elegant moral thriller and debut feature OUR FATHER, THE DEVIL ("Mon père, le diable") stars a riveting Babetida Sadjo as Marie, the head chef at a retirement home in small-town France. Her day-to-day life spent caring for residents, hanging out with her co-worker and best friend Nadia (Jennifer Tchiakpe), and teasing a potential new romance is disrupted by the arrival of Father Patrick (former Spirit Award nominee Souleymane Sy Savané, GOODBYE SOLO), an African priest whom she recognizes from a terrifying episode in her homeland. As he further endears himself to the residents and staff, Marie is forced to decide how best to deal with this reminder of her troubled past.

Produced by Foumbi and Joseph Mastantuono, the film has had quite a journey; strong reviews and word of mouth propelled it from it's premiere in Venice to Tribeca to its Indie Spirit nom, with countless fests and awards in between including: Palm Springs International FF (Winner, "New Voices/New Visions Special Jury Mention), American Black FF (Winner, "Best Feature" + "John Singleton Award: Best First Feature"), Tallgrass International FF (Winner, "Female Filmmaker Spotlight Award" + "Excellence in  the Art of Filmmaking Award, Special Mention") Mill Valley FF (Winner, "Audience Award: U.S. Cinema Indie" + "Mind the Gap Award").

Ellie Foumbi is an actor, writer, and director from Cameroon whose work has screened at Venice, HollyShorts and Santa Barbara International Film Festival. She's an alum of Berlinale Talents and New York Film Festival’s Artist Academy. Her projects have been supported The Gotham's Project Market, Film Independent, and the Tribeca Film Institute
