Director/Writer Tracy "Twinkie" Byrd To Screen Short Film ’The Counter 1960’ For ‘a Short Break’ On Feb. 14
4910 Rosalie Prod., in partnership with BlackFilmandTV.com, is excited to announce its next episode of ‘a Short Break’ with The Counter 1960 by Director/Writer Tracy "Twinkie" Byrd.
Byrd is best known as the Casting Director to many music videos, TV, and films including Notorious, Sparkle, Fruitvale Station, Black Nativity, Being Mary Jane, Southside With You, The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, and more recently American Skin.
The eighteen minute short stars Ashley Jackson, Tabitha Brown, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Lauren Elle Christie, Steven Dodd, and Etienne Ralph Maurice. Jackson co-wrote the film with Byrd and co produced it along with Kimberly Ogletree.
In this award -winning short, Byrd intersects history’s present with its past-interconnecting the issues that impact society and culture. Set in 2017, three conscious (woke) Black students find themselves seated at a lunch counter in 1960. Will they be served?
Based off of a true story, the film begins with three North Caroline University students, Joseph (Jerod Haynes), Diane (Ashley Jackson), and Franklin (Etienne Maurice), who are completely frustrated by a constant string of police killing of unarmed black youth. They decide to meet and think of what it is students like them can do to contribute to positive change. The film’s plotline unravels through a bridging between different temporal backgrounds and settings.
a Short Break” is the intersectionality of Audience and Filmmaker that allows the audience direct, unfiltered conversations with filmmakers via video & online chatting.
