Greenwich Entertainment Acquires Ilinca Calugareanu's A COPS AND ROBBERS STORY for Jan 2022 Release
Greenwich Entertainment announced today the acquisition of North American distribution rights to A Cops and Robbers Story directed by Ilinca Calugareanu (Chuck Norris vs Communism). The documentary premiered to strong reviews at the 2020 DOC NYC with Indiewire declaring “an arresting doc about a celebrated cop and his secret criminal past.” Greenwich will release the film (theatrically and VOD) on January 14, 2022.
In the 1980s, Corey Pegues found himself embroiled in a life of crime as a member of New York’s City’s infamous Supreme Team gang. After a near-death incident forces Pegues away from the streets, he unexpectedly emerges as a rising star in the NYPD. When his former life is revealed, Pegues’s police career is threatened raising the perennial question of who deserves – and who doesn’t deserve – a second chance in life.
"The making of A Cops and Robbers Story has been a wonderful four-year journey,” said director Illinca Calugareanu. “We are so excited that Corey’s incredible story is going out into the world to as wide an audience as possible, especially at this critical time, when unfortunately, these issues remain so relevant."
A Cops and Robbers Story was produced by Mara Adina (Chuck Norris vs Communism) with executive producers Brenda Robinson, Julie Parker Benello, Erika Olde, Nion McEvoy, Sam Roseme, Tanja Tawadjoh, John Battsek, Abbas Nokhasteh and Jonathan Stanners. Greenwich’s Andy Bohn negotiated the acquisition with Endeavor Content on behalf of the filmmakers.
