Sony Pictures Classics To Release ‘Nine Days,’ Starring Winston Duke & Zazie Beetz, In Theaters July 30th
Sony Pictures Classics has announced that it will release the fantasy feature Nine Days in theaters in NY and LA on July 30th. The film, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and received two 2021 Film Independent Spirit Award nominations, will expand nationwide on August 6th.
Making his feature-film debut after a series of highly acclaimed and award-winning short films and music videos is Brazilian born writer-director Edson Oda. He won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the festival. The film stars Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz, Benedict Wong, Tony Hale, Bill Skarsgård, David Rysdahl, and Arianna Ortiz.
Will (Winston Duke) spends his days in a remote outpost watching the live Point of View (POV) on TV’s of people going about their lives, until one subject perishes, leaving a vacancy for a new life on earth. Soon, several candidates — unborn souls — arrive at Will's to undergo tests determining their fitness, facing oblivion when they are deemed unsuitable. But Will soon faces his own existential challenge in the form of free-spirited Emma (Zazie Beetz), a candidate who is not like the others, forcing him to turn within and reckon with his own tumultuous past. Fueled by unexpected power, he discovers a bold new path forward in his own life.
The film is a co-production between Juniper Productions, Mandalay Pictures, Nowhere, MACRO Media and The Space Program, in association with Mansa Productions, Oak Street Pictures, 30WEST, Baked Studios and Datari Turner Productions.
The project is produced by Jason Michael Berman of Mandalay Pictures, Mette-Marie Kongsved and Laura Tunstall of Nowhere, Matthew Lindnerof Juniper Productions and Datari Turner.
