Terrence J. Smith, Tiffany Elle Burgess, and Aba Arthur Latest Newcomers To Join The Color Purple Film
Terrence J. Smith, Tiffany Elle Burgess, and Aba Arthur are the latest newcomers to have been added to the cast of The Color Purple, which is being directed by Blitz Bazawule.
Production began this March in Atlanta. It is a story of triumph over adversity and is one of the most beloved, celebrated and inspiring family stories in our culture today - it has touched the hearts of millions of people around the world.
This fresh cinematic re-imagining of The Color Purple - featuring magical realism, music and dancing to tell the story - will delight lovers of earlier versions of The Color Purple as well as introduce these beloved characters to an entirely new generation of fans.
The trio join a cast that includes Fantasia Barrino, Ciara, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Jon Batiste, Louis Gossett, Jr., David Alan Grier, Tamela Mann, Phylicia Mpasi, Deon Cole, and Stephen Hill.
This new musical feature of The Color Purple is a screen adaptation of the stage musical which has been recognized with Tony Award, Grammy Award and Emmy Award wins.
The film is produced by Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, Oprah Winfrey, and Quincy Jones.
Terrence J. Smith has been cast as “Adam” in the film. Smith is a trained actor for both stage and film. On the regional stage he has appeared in musicals such as “A Raisin In The Sun”. On screen, Smith made his film debut with the 2021 blockbuster, “The Tomorrow War”.
Tiffany Elle Burgess has been cast as “Olivia”. Burgess is a trained actress, writer, and producer. She has appeared on television (“The Wonder Years”) and in short films, including the “Glitter Ain’t Gold” which recently premiered at South by Southwest, commercials, and web series.
Aba Arthur is a Ghanaian American actor trained for both stage and screen. On stage, she has appeared in a number of notable plays including “Proof” and “For Colored Girls”. On screen, Arthur made her debut working with acclaimed Director, Wim Wenders, on the groundbreaking film "8." Most recently, you can find her on the popular ABC series, “Queens”.
