The 7th Annual Hip Hop Film Festival to play at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Harlem Film House VR Metaverse

The Harlem Film House presents its 7th annual Hip Hop Film Festival, which features film screenings, block parties, rap battles, master classes called Master Cyphers, and more. This year’s festival takes place from August 11th through August 20th, with in-person events at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Downtown Brooklyn, live events on 247films.tv, and in the Harlem Film House VR Metaverse (2D & VR).

This year’s prestigious G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) is Warrington Hudlin, one half of the famous Hudlin Brothers, who are responsible for some of the culture’s biggest movies including HOUSE PARTY, “BOOMERANG, and “BE-BE’s KIDS.”

For the first time since 2019, the festival will hold four days of in-person screenings with the festival’s top sponsor Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. One hundred filmmakers from around the world will present stories from the culture across a wide variety of genres, including biopics, social horror, and more. “Alamo Drafthouse is known for showing the largest variety of films and diverse genres than any other cinema every year in support of both emerging and established filmmakers.”, says Shelli Taylor, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. “We are honored to continue this tradition with CR Capers and the Hip Hop Film Festival.”

This year's festival also offers a glimpse into the future of immersive content with the world premiere of the first-ever META-based TV show called “BECOMING THE MOETTES,” written and directed by CR Capers, Founder and CEO of Harlem Film House and Hip Hop Film Festival. “I truly believe in the power of immersive content,” remarks CR Capers. “It allows the audience to experience narratives in a new way.  I am very excited to share what we have been working on, and to show the industry what a little imagination can produce in the MetaVerse”.

The Harlem MetaVerse is a fully immersive virtual reality world that allows festival goers to attend events in 2D and VR. Attendees can create their own avatar, hop on the subway in Harlem MetaVerse, and visit various locations, including an immersive movie theater, a full convention center, the TAYO Art Museum Gallery, and more. Festival goers can attend film screenings, live block parties, rap battles, and Master Cyphers in a truly immersive experience.

Through its sponsors and partnerships, the Hip Hop Film Festival awards prizes that help festival winners finance and distribute their content. This year’s Best Festival and other category winners are up for prizes that include acquisition and licensing meetings. The winner of the ACT UP! Screenwriter’s competition will receive an all-inclusive 3 week trip to the Nostos Screenwriting Retreat in Tuscany, Italy and direct entry into Final Draft’s BIG Break competition.

The festival's unique pitch competition, THE BOSS PITCH, returns, with top Hollywood female executives investing their greenlight power into the best narratives. The "bosses" participating in this year's Boss Pitch include executives from BET+, kweliTV, Big Fish Entertainment, Starz, Crystal Ship, Catscape TV, among others.
