The Fire Inside, starring Ryan Destiny as boxer Claressa Shields, to have World Premiere at Toronto Int’l Film Festival

Among the films making its World Premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 7 is The Fire Inside, starring Ryan Destiny and Academy Award nominee Brian Tyree Henry. Academy Award nominee Rachel Morrison directed the film from a script by Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins.

The film is the inspirational true story of two-time boxing gold medalist Claressa Shields. Amazon MGM Studios will release the film in theaters on December 25.

Claressa Shields is arguably the greatest female boxer of all time. Claressa, a high school Junior from Flint, Michigan, aided by her tough-love coach, Jason Crutchfield, pushes past all limitations to become the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing. But even at the pinnacle of success, Claressa has to reckon with the fact that not all dreams are created equal, and the real fight has only just begun.

Also cast in the film are Judy Greer, Oluniké Adeliyi, and De'Adre Aziza.

Elishia Holmes and Barry Jenkins are the producers. The executive producers include Lyn Lucibello Brancatella, Rachel Morrison, Claressa Shields, Drea Cooper, Zackary Canepari, and Sue Jaye Johnson.
