MGM has released the official trailer for Cyrano, the upcoming musical film adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s classic French romantic play, starring Emmy winner Peter Dinklage. The film had its world premiere last September at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival. It is currently slated to arrive in U.S. theaters on Friday, December 31.

The cast also includes Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Ben Mendelsohn, Bashir Salahuddin, and Monica Dolan.

Award-winning director Joe Wright envelops moviegoers in a symphony of emotions with music, romance, and beauty in Cyrano, re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (played by Peter Dinklage) dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.).

Cyrano is also based on Schmidt’s 2018 stage musical of the same name, which also featured Dinklage and Bennett in the leading roles. The film adaptation will features songs from The Nationals’ Aaron and Bryce Dessner, with lyrics from Matt Berninger and Carin Besser.
