Trailer & Key Art To Peacock’s Girls5eva
Peacock has released the trailer and key art to its upcoming series Girls5eva, starring Grammy Award-winner and Tony and Emmy Award-nominated singer Sara Bareilles, Grammy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer Renée Elise Goldsberry, Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live mainstay and comedy icon Paula Pell, and New York Times Best-Selling author, actor, activist, writer and host Busy Philipps. Tony-Award nominated “Mean Girls” star and “Emily in Paris” actress Ashley Park is set for a recurring role. Girls5eva will premiere Thursday, May 6. All eight episodes will drop at once on Peacock.
Bareilles will star as Dawn, former member of the short-lived 90s girl group Girls5eva, who is now a bit restless in life managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens. When the opportunity arises, Dawn reluctantly gets the band back together for a Girls5eva reunion and it might just be exactly what she needed.
Goldsberry will star as Wickie, the glamorous, big-voiced, star of the group back in the day, Wickie’s solo career hit a ditch, but she’s determined to use this new opportunity to retake her rightful place as pop royalty.
Philipps will star as Summer, the most bubbly, but least talented member of the group. Summer is now a “Real Housewives” reject in yoga pants living in a New Jersey McMansion.
Pell will star as Gloria. Since the group disbanded, she has since become a dentist and come out of the closet. Now living with her elderly father, she yearns for more in life than looking in people’s mouths and giving her dad heart pills.
Park will recur as Ashley. Ashley was the glue that held the short-lived girl group Girls5eva together back in the late 90s. She had the most experience going in, having been part of seven failed girl groups previously.
Meredith Scardino serves as writer and executive producer for the series. Tina Fey (Little Stranger, Inc.), Robert Carlock (Bevel Gears), Jeff Richmond, David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment), Eric Gurian (Little Stanger) will also serve as executive producers. Girls5eva is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Kat Coiro (“SHE-HULK,” “Marry Me”) is set to direct the pilot.
