Oscar & Emmy Award Winner Regina King To Host Saturday Night Live On Feb. 13 With Nathaniel Rateliff As Musical Guest

NBC has announced that Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Regina King will host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on Feb. 13. She makes her feature film directorial debut with “One Night in Miami,” currently in theaters and on Amazon Prime Video. Nathaniel Rateliff will make his debut as musical guest. His latest single, “Redemption,” written for the film “Palmer,” comes on the heels of his celebrated 2020 solo album, “And It’s Still Alright.”

King will be 14th black woman to host. Last year, Insecure’s Issa Rae had hosting duties. In November of 2017, Tiffany Haddish hosted the show. Oscar winner Octavia Spencer hosted the show in 2016, and Taraji P. Henson had the honors during its 40th Anniversary in 2015. Scandal star Kerry Washington hosted the show in November 2013. Former SNL member Maya Rudolph was the host in February 2012 and before that Gabourey Sidibe hosted in early 2010. Rosario Dawson did it in 2009 , fiver years after Janet Jackson had the honors in 2004. Halle Berry hosted back in 2003. Queen Latifah has done it twice, first in 2003 and served as host/musical guest in 2004. Cicely Tyson was the fisrt back in 1979, followed by Oprah Winfrey in 1986.
