Exclusive: Ayesha Harris talks Prime Video’s Daisy Jones and the Six

Currently playing on on Prime Video is Daisy Jones and the Six, which is based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Daisy Jones & The Six is a musical-drama series detailing the rise and precipitous fall of a renowned rock band. The highly-anticipated limited series premiered on March 3, with new episodes released every Friday through March 24, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The series stars Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, Sam Claflin as Billy Dunne, Camila Morrone as Camila Alvarez Dunne, Will Harrison as Graham Dunne, Suki Waterhouse as Karen Sirko, Josh Whitehouse as Eddie Roundtree, Sebastian Chacon as Warren Rojas, Nabiyah Be as Simone Jackson, and Tom Wright as Teddy Price, with a special guest appearance by Timothy Olyphant as Rod Reyes.

In 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six were on top of the world. Fronted by two charismatic lead singers—Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin)—the band had risen from obscurity to fame. And then, after a sold-out show at Chicago's Soldier Field, they called it quits. Now, decades later, the band members finally agree to reveal the truth. This is the story of how an iconic band imploded at the height of its powers.

James Ponsoldt directed the first five episodes and serves as an executive producer, Nzingha Stewart directed four of the remaining episodes, and Graham directed one. The series will feature all original songs written and produced by Grammy Nominated producer Blake Mills and a number of other talented co-writers.

Also included in the cast is Ayesha Harris as Bernie, the love interest of Simone Jackson (Nabiyah Be). Simone is Daisy’s best friend and is a singer as well. Through her relationship with Bernie, she has a chance to change the course of her destiny. Bernie is a manager at a disco club in New York City.

Harris made her feature film debut in “Tell It Like a Woman” which was comprised of seven segments, each helmed by a female director from different parts of the world. She starred opposite Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson in her storyline and was directed by Taraji P. Henson.

She will next star in the Netflix drama series “Glamorous,” alongside Kim Cattrall. “Glamorous” tells the story of Marco Mejia (Miss Benny), a gender-nonconforming queer young man whose life seems to be stuck in place until he lands a job working for legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison. Ayesha plays Britt, a graphic designer who finds her long-time crush on a colleague requited when they match by surprise, sparking a relationship that gets serious in more ways than one. “Glamorous” is set to debut in 2023.

Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales caught up with Harris as she spoke about her role in Daisy Jones and what goes into saying yes to the projects she takes.
