Exclusive: Director Ishana Night Shyamalan and Georgina Campbell talk mystery thriller The Watchers

Hitting theaters on June 7 is the mystery thriller The Watchers, which is adapted from the novel of the same name by A.M. Shine, and written & directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan. Produced by her father M. Night Shyamalan, the cast includes Dakota FanningGeorgina CampbellOliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere.

The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night. 

Ishana, who is making her feature directorial debut, recently served as writer and director on the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series Servant. Among the youngest-ever series writer/directors, beginning at age 19, Shyamalan wrote or co-wrote ten episodes and directed six, including two season finales. She directed second unit on the hit features Old and Knock at the Cabin, both of which topped the box office in their respective opening weekends. Shyamalan also directed four music videos for R&B singer Saleka. after working on her father’s "Servant" series directing episodes.

Campbell, who plays one of the strangers, is best known for her starring turn in the horror film Barbarian. She won the best actress BAFTA TV award for her performance in the BBC drama feature Murdered by My Boyfriend and gained notices for her appearance in the Black Mirror episode “Hang the DJ,” which earned three BAFTA nominations. Other film credits include Netflix’s spinoff of the streamer’s horror thriller Bird Box and Lovely, Dark and Deep
