Exclusive: Director Kate Herron on balancing Loki series with drama and comedy
Debuting this Wednesday, June 9 on Disney+ is Marvel Studios’ “Loki,” in which Tom Hiddleston reprises his role from all three “Thor” films, 2012’s “The Avengers,” and 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War.” Hiddleston last portrayed the God of Mischief in last year’s highest-grossing film of all time “Avengers: Endgame,” where he successfully had stolen the Tesseract during Iron Man and Ant Man’s failed attempt to retrieve it.
Marvel Studios’ “Loki” features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” It’s the franchise’s third television show on Disney’s streaming service following WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs “Loki,” and Michael Waldron is head writer.
Herron is best known for directing the first season of the Netflix coming-of-age comedy series Sex Education starring Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson. She also has directed numerous short movies that have been selected for different film festivals like London Film Festival and Palm Springs Shortsfest.
BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Herron about being a Loki fan and balancing the series with drama and comedy.
