At the risk of ruining the holidays for his family, Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross), and their three children must race against the clock to break Pepper’s spell, battle deviously magical characters, and save Christmas for everyone.
The film reunites director Reginald Hudlin, Murphy, and producer Brian Grazer for the first time since their 1992 hit, Boomerang.
The screenplay comes from Kelly Younger, inspired by his own childhood holiday experiences on Candy Cane Lane in El Segundo, CA. The film was produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Eddie Murphy, Karen Lunder, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster.
Best known for directing comedies such as House Party, Boomerang, and The Ladies Man, Hudlin also did Marshall with Chadwick Boseman, the documentaries The Black Godfather and Sidney. The latter is a portrait of the life and legacy of actor Sidney Poitier in his final appearance. He also produced Django Unchained and executive produced the House Party remake, which was released this year.
