Exclusive: Florence Pugh, director Zach Braff, and Molly Shannon talk A Good Person
Hitting theaters wide on March 24 from MGM is A Good Person, written and directed by Zach Braff and starring Florence Pugh, Morgan Freeman, Celeste O'Connor, Molly Shannon, Chinaza Uche, Zoe Lister Jones, Nichelle Hines, and Toby Onwumere.
Daniel (Morgan Freeman) is brought together with Allison (Florence Pugh), the once thriving young woman with a bright future who was involved in an unimaginable tragedy that took his daughter’s life. As grief-stricken Daniel navigates raising his teenage granddaughter and Allison seeks redemption, they discover that friendship, forgiveness, and hope can flourish in unlikely places.
Braff produced the film with Pugh, along with Noah Segal, Christine Vachon, Christina Piovesan and Pamela Koffer.
Pugh was last in 2022’s The Wonder, the animated film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Olivia Wilde’s New Line thriller Don’t Worry Darling. An Oscar nominee for Little Women, Pugh was also seen in Disney+’s Hawkeye series, and Marvel’s Black Widow. Braff and Pugh previously worked together on Braff’s 2019 short film In the Time It Takes to Get There, where Pugh plays the 18th century equivalent of a social media influencer.
Best known for playing the recurring role of J.D. on NBC’s “Scrubs,” Braff previously directed the features “Garden State” and “Wish I Was Here,” which he also acted in, as well as the 2017 film “Going in Style.” Braff received an Emmy nomination in 2021 for directing an episode of the Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso.” The film reunites Braff with Freeman, who starred in the actor-filmmaker’s last directorial outing, Going In Style.
Shannon, who’s best known for her six seasons on Saturday Night Live, can be seen in the Showtime series I Love This for You, the second season of Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider’s The Other Two as well as Mike White’s acclaimed limited series The White Lotus. She was also in the indie comedy Spin Me Round and the Academy Award-nominated film Promising Young Woman.
