Exclusive: Imani Hakim talks about starring and co-producing Chris Naoki Lee’s Dinner Party

Currently making its run at various festivals is Chris Naoki Lee’s directorial debut Dinner Party, starring Kara Wang, Imani Hakim, Kausar Mohammed, Chris Naoki Lee , Charles Hittinger, Adam Senn, Allison Paige, Mayank Bhatter, Daniel Weaver, Noah Lance, and Jody Steel.

"If you met your childhood friends today, would you still f**k with them?"

Written by Lee and Daniel Weaver, the film features four childhood friends who reunite over dinner with their partners. As they have aged and evolved, so have the social climate and topics of discussion. Exploring sexism, racism and classism, the dinner takes place during a controversial court case that not only captures the nation’s attention, but the friends’ as well.

Best known for her roles in UPN's Everybody Hates Chris, Lifetime's The Gabby Douglas Story, Netflix's Burning Sands, and Apple TV+ comedy series Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet, Hakim plays Izzy, girlfriend to one of the childhood friends. As the outsider with no skin in the game, she offers a different perspective to the events taking place. Her conscience may change her relationship with her boyfriend.

In speaking with BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales, Hakim goes over her role in the film and also coming on board as a co-producer.
